VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Women Action Group: Communications and Fundraising Volunteer (December 2012-April 2013)

Duties: Using crowd funding, social media, videography/video editing, grant writing, and WordPress, I reached out to individual and business donors to raise money for WAG, a vocational school for girls in rural Ghana. This initiative raised over $1200, which brought running water and electricity back to the school, and supplied needed course materials.

Crossroads International: Fundraising Volunteer (July 20-November 2012)

Duties: Using social media and various websites, I raised $4100 for Crossroads International, which is an international development organization that aims to reduce poverty and increase human rights around the world.

Elephant Nature Foundation: Public Education/Emergency Rescue Volunteer (October-November 2011)

Duties: I assisted Elephant Nature Foundation (based in Chiang Mai, Thailand) in various ways, including feeding/bathing disabled elephants. I was also part of an emergency rescue team for stranded animals during the October 2011 floods. I was named an “Elephant Ambassador” after these events, which led me to create a blog (“Rough Skin, Big Heart”) to educate the public about the plight of Asian elephants.

Carleton University Relay for Life 2011: Public Relations Chair (August 2010-March 2011)

Duties: As a public relations chair, I organized fundraising events and solicited donations from various companies. Carleton University Relay for Life 2011 raised over $53,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
